“We are going from reading our genetic code to the ability to write it.”- Craig Venter
The decoding of the human genome and the developement of synthetic biology offer chances and
risks. We can now read, modify and write an organisms genome.
»embodyments« is a series inspired from these possibilities. With a conventional scanner a body is recorded. Samples and materials, which refer metaphorically to the synthesis between biology
and information technology, are processed where scanned with an scanning electron microscope (SEM) at the geosciences department of the University of Bremen. The visual synthesis is to be understood as an artistic illustration. But the method was similar to what synthetic biology does. Read, modify, write.

Experimental fashion representation and fashion illustration offers a framework in that contents can be communicated very freely and artistically. A creative processes applying these future technologies, materials and methods on the body is here not a concrete proposal for an application; it is rather made to evoke a discussion and debate.
